Berkshire is the home of many great businesses. With its close proximity to London and Heathrow Airport the M4 corridor which runs through Berkshire is very attractive to many businesses. Towns like Reading and Newbury are home to some of the big multi nationals like Vodafone and Verizon.

Berkshire is also the home for thousands of other smaller local businesses and is also a major commuter zone into London. The town of Reading houses thousands of commuters who enjoy fast and regular train services into London Paddington.

Thames Valley Park in Reading is home to the headquarters of Microsoft UK. It was opened up around 20 years ago and includes a nature reserve along its river front location. Other large companies with offices on TVP include Oracle, Shell and BG Group. It also has a beautiful leisure centre run by David Lloyds at the heart of the park. With great motorway links to both the M4 and M3 the park employs around 8,000 people currently.

Verizon has its UK headquarters based just off Junction 11 of the M4 on the outskirts of Reading. Their spacious offices at Reading International Business Park are home to several thousand of their workforce. As one of the leading phone and data providers on the planet the fact that they have their base in Berkshire speaks wonders for the area.

Vodafone are based in Newbury, to the West of the County, and are another global giant with its UK headquarters in the Thames Valley. Estimated to be worth 90 billion pounds, Vodafone is a global telecommunications leader that employs 5,000 people in West Berkshire with many more across the country.

Further along the M4, just a few miles from Heathrow Airport, is the large Slough Trading Estate. It is Europe’s largest trading estate in single ownership and its tenants include Mars, O2 and Ferrari. With an estimated 2.6 million potential employees within an hour of Slough, the Trading Estate is a prime location for any business.

While large trading estates housing large multinational companies are common in Berkshire the County also has thriving local businesses that provide goods and services through the Home Counties and South east of England. Berkshire is renowned for its Tech expertise and many digital firms are flourishing in the region.

The small business community is thriving within Berkshire which has a large Chamber of Commerce and a number of Business Networking International (BNI) chapters. Most towns in Berkshire also have Biscotti networking groups and Athena Networking for women. There are over 300 different businesses in the BNI organisation in Berkshire passing around 10 million pounds worth of business each year. The Chamber of Commerce for Berkshire hosts conferences that are often attended by over 6,000 businesses and the Thames Valley Chamber is one of the largest in the country.
